Please tell us more about your problem, especially where do you select your location.

To get lon/lat corner for a place on the map I usually do this:

  1. go to http://osm.org
  2. select export tab from the top of the page
  3. click "Manually select a different area"
  4. mark the area on the map
  5. copy the values from the boxes on the left.

in this case it would south-west: 59.31414,18.0406 and north-east: 59.31985,18.04848

If your question is "how can I select a region and know the coordiantes for the southern, eastern, western, and northern edge of my region", then the answer is to go to the "export" tab on www.openstreetmap.org, click on "manually select a different area", and then draw the rectangle and read the coordinates from the four text boxes on the left.
