(Without using either Potlatch2 or JOSM) is it possible to change lines into an area using iD and without wasting the lines and starting again? Update: I just tried what you said Ed and it still doesn't offer area features, only line ones. |

I just did a quick test. I drew a line with a number of nodes. I then snipped it in two at one of the nodes in the middle. I drew a new line starting at the snipped node and finishing at one end of the original line, to draw something that looked like an area (with the other half of the original line coming off one node). The two lines that looked like an area I selected using shift and used the + button to merge them into a single way. As the start and end node of this single closed way are the same (as scai says) it is now an area. thanks ed please see added image and edit.

@andy mackey I tend to use http://api06.dev.openstreetmap.org/ for tests such as this - it avoids edits popping up anywhere on the live server (even in the middle of the Pacific there are various islands and areas that soemeone's going to be interested in).

see @aseerel4c26 's comment to a similar question which suggests temporarily adding area=yes as a workaround.

An area is just a line (a way) where the start and end nodes are the same.
@scai that's correct at the OSM level, but (in case anyone's not aware) iD internally tries to differentiate between them; what Andy's saying is that this sometimes causes problems.
@andy mackey: This is a duplicate of the older question how-to-combine-several-lines-to-an-area-with-editor-id, isn't it?
Ok thannks
