I have found out that in some specific places in Italy the boundaries of buildings are not correct at all. So I am thinking about how I may fix this.

Does anyone know if Italy has any cadastre data available for public download like for example most parts of Germany have?

Ah I had not realised that incompatibility. No need for the tiles then. I find the catastale maps a good source of ideas of where to walk (old pays and roads are clear). But then I've always used my own GPS tracks for any resulting updates.

The catastrale data is available freely online under the Creative Commons 4.0 Attribution

If anybody could work out the magic to make the tiles usable in the ID editor, that would be great!

and is there a waiver in regard to CC4.0, e.g. by getting a signature here: https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Licence/Waiver_and_Permission_Templates/Cover_letter_and_waiver_template_for_CC_BY_4.0 ? CC4.0 is not per se compatible to ODbL.

There has been multiple imports of government data in Italy however as far as I know these have always been datasets from local/regional administrative bodies.

I suspect you will get the best answer from asking the community in question, giving your area of interest, on https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it which seems to be fairly active, or https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewforum.php?id=39 which seems to be fairly quiet.

In any case you should have a look at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Italy for more information.
