It would be nice if i could search for tourist attraction in osm. therefor could be used the wikipedia articel coordinates. Example: Search for "Römersteinbruch Aflenz" Then show a link to: http://www.openstreetmap.org/index.html?mlat=46.749167&mlon=15.549444&zoom=15#map=15/46.7492/15.5494 using the coordinates in: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%B6mersteinbruch_Aflenz if its not the right place here, please help me find the right place for this matter. best wishes moritz |

Using Wikipedia's "name – geocoordinate" database for search results is only a matter of the search engine. You could program your own search engine and use the Wikipedia database as one of its sources. You can see all the Wikipedia articles (which have coordinates attached) on the iframe map on top of each article (click the OSM icon to open it). Same with the globe icon on another background map. See Wikipedia:WikiProjekt_Georeferenzierung/Anwendungen (German) for more applications. And, in fact here is the service you are imagining: http://www.geonames.org/wikipedia.html (except that it does not seem to use OSM maps). Instead we at OSM collect our own data which is used by many services (maybe one of those even offers showing Wikipedia's coordinates). The Römersteinbruch could also be added to our OSM data (currently it seems that it is not), but we are not allowed to copy Wikipedia's coordinates (copyright). However, we also map such objects like historic quarries or other tourist attractions. Example. You also can search our database for it (although the search on osm.org is limited - you will also notice that there is no routing, but many other OSM-based services offer it). We also add a reference to our objects if they have an wikipedia article. Example. |

Your hint refers to 2 aspects: 1. You like to find touristic destinations: 2. You want to find Wikipedia objects: 1
However, despite the cooperation with Wikipedia, their pages are not being used as a data source for the osm.org search box - which is probably what would come closest to the request. While the example in the question could and should just be mapped in OSM, other Wikipedia pages are about events or historic objects that no longer exist and might therefore be a worthwhile addition to OSM's own data.
