I was wondering why the name for Falkland Islands is pulled in as "Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas)" Is this expected or does something need updated? asked 17 Dec '20, 17:22 Conor_Kainos |
From time to time people change the name either adding Islas Malvinas in brackets or replacing the entire time. These are contrary to a general policy that the name of a country is that used by people who live there. Accordingly these edits usually get reverted, which happened almost immediately (1 h 17 m) after the last change to "Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas)". The data you are using will have been captured during this small window or your data supplier chooses to use the int_name (international name) which does, in this case, follow a UN convention. In general the benefits of allowing unmoderated edits far outweigh the relatively small, albeit potentially high profile, edits of this sort which vary from straight vandalism, through well-intentioned 'fixes' to national pride. The Data Working Group usually catch such edits quickly: the main targets are quite well known after 16 years. answered 17 Dec '20, 17:43 SK53 ♦ |
