IMHO the incline tag is really only helpful on short steep climbs/decents that cannot be determined from our all favioute DEM (STRM). STRM due to its low resolution. Further the value is supposed to reflect the maximum incline on the stretch in question and not the average, simply substracting start elevation from end elevation is not going to result in correct results. My solution is simply to examine the noteable climbs in an external program (in my case SportTracks) and manually extract the maximum incline from that.
