regular osm map iD editor uses an old version of bing aerial imagery. why?

When I use regular osm map editor (edit with iD (in browser)), the bing aerial imagery in the background is really old. But when I use the potlatch editor, bing aerial imagery is new. Format. Replace bing maps by bing aerial imagery as mentioned in my comment. clearly no "maps" (in the stricter sense) is meant here.
