(Similar to WhoDidIt:) If it is Use a nearly recent edit [OWL](//wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OWL) offers the [improved history tab](http://owl.apis.dev.openstreetmap.org/) (go to the location in question and click on "History (beta)"). (*note*: as of 2014-12 OWL does not seem to work anymore, use [another monitoring [monitoring tool](//wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Quality_assurance#Monitoring_Tools) (e.g. tyrasd – e.g. WhoDidIt or "tyrasd Latest Changes service) – I service" (I do not know if it shows deletions too) to find the relevant edits.)

*Regarding the this specific case* (also providing some usage info of the mentioned tool…):
[Still visible on zoomlevel 12 and smaller](http://owl.apis.dev.openstreetmap.org/?lat=37.3441&lon=-78.6192&zoom=12&layers=M). Using the new history tab at the [location where it should be](http://owl.apis.dev.openstreetmap.org/?lat=37.3646&lon=-78.6396&zoom=14&layers=M) reveals that it was [touched](http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/changeset/16543481) (listed as "modified" but it was delted - that may be the non-production state simon mentions …) 11 days ago. However, http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/191331545 - that it was. [OSMHV shows it nicely](http://osmhv.openstreetmap.de/changeset.jsp?id=16543481#lon=-78.0350265;lat=37.35747123;zoom=10;layer=Mpnk).
