The running costs of the server infrastructure is thankfully nowhere near $100,000. Server hosting costs are negligible thanks to generous hosting supporters. there was also a recent call for individual donations to upgrade servers: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/New_server_and_fund_raising_drive_2011 and http://donate.openstreetmap.org/server2011/ , to which everyone here could donate (but the funding target has been more than matched by now)
