I am using Ubuntu Linux 10.10. If I try to edit maps with Potlatch2 I get the message "You need Flash to use Potlatch. You can download it from Adobe here" (or something like that). However when I click "here" - I get a message "Flash is already installed" (or something like that). What on earth is going on here????

I have a similar problem: My browser gets to the potlatch loading screen, but hangs at 100%. I have the proper flash installed. I tried in three different browsers, and it didn't work in any of them, so I reckon the problem must be elsewhere. I'm also on Ubuntu 10.10. Newest Adobe Flash installed.

Ubuntu comes with the open source flash player gnash. It does not have support for Action Script 3 that Potlatch 2 is written in. (lightspark have support for Action Script 3 but fails to run Potlatch 2.) You can confirm this by starting a flash program (like youtube) and right click. If the menu does not say Adobe Flash you are running the gnash plugin.

On my setup I got it running by uninstalling gnash and installing flashplugin-installer.

Thanks. I uninstalled gnash and everything is now working fine. Adobe flash was already installed - so I presume gnash was set as the preferred application and as soon as it was removed adobe flash took over.

The easy fix is to use Chrome in Ubuntu: for heavy Ajax/Flash it is much faster than Firefox. I usually use Firefox, except for all mapping applications: Geoportail, Google maps, OSM, Vttrack, Visugpx...
