I am doing Topographical CNC wood carvings. I have been trying to get the locations of the memorials in one osm file to be imported into OGIS. The only way I can accomplish this is to zoom in relatively close to view them and the export that. I am doing this process many times to get the whole battlefield. Anyway of doing this in one file would be helpful.

I don't know the import capabilities of OGIS but you can get a whole state extract for Pennsylvania from Geofabrik in either a shp file or a OSM pbf file. You can use a tool like osmium to make an extract that covers only the area of interest, maybe the whole battleground, and then import that to your GIS program.

Overpass would suit your need I think.

Overpass-turbo.eu is a nice web interface with export options.

If you meant QGIS, there is an overpass plugin.
