My goal is to create an OSM map embedable in a PPT presentation.

I would like to mark electric vehicle charging stations on the OSM map. How to customise the point icon?

I am editing the OSM map online.

OSM is a database of geographic information, to create a map in a particular style or with custom icons you do not need to and -should- not touch the underlying data (obviously if you want to correct data, yes then you should be editing it).

One reasonably fast way to get a map with custom icons for specific data would be to use a map created with Umap, see: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/UMap

For just displaying OSM charging points Mapcomplete might be close enough: https://mapcomplete.osm.be/charging_stations.html

Overlaying proprietary or otherwise incompatible data will require something like uMap though as Simon has said.
