as is generally often layouted in maps. How can I explore the rivers in regions I don't know well, if I don't see them on a larger scale?

Which map are you looking at?

Lots of different maps show OSM data differently. On the openstreetmap.org site there are several map styles, and many others elsewhere. Perhaps try a different map?

I was looking on the different openstreetmap.org maps, but querying for different maps based on the OSM data.
