What is the most streamlined way of editing an existing OSM object? There is a boundary that is in OSM that is incorrect. I'd like to fix it by editing the actual object, not creating a new one.

How do I do this?

I've been contracted to assist with a city's GIS projects. The boundary of the city in OSM is slightly off. I was provided the shapefile of the correct boundary. I'm adept using ArcGIS products and have used OSM casually, so I took on the task. I was approaching it using the Add-In for ArcMap, but I'm wondering if there's a simpler way of editing using the default editor in a web browser.

Assuming all the licensing/copyright hurdles are cleared then my instinct is that this sounds like a job for JOSM to me. I think there is an Open data plugin that handles GeoJSON at a minimum? Be sure to read the import guidelines, they are often more strictly enforced than the name would suggest.

By editing the existing object in your editing application of choice, in general for newcomers that would be the web embedded editor iD, the default editor you get when you choose "Edit" on openstreetmap.org

That said editing boundaries can be fairly involved and can at times be controversial, so it is typically something that you should only attempt with substantial experience.

Would you care to explain, in a comment, what you believe is incorrect?
