Help! I would like to get street map for Ecuador for the 3 major cities (Guayaquil, Quito, Cuenca) and the minor ones if I could. I just got & installed (type:Mapnik) for Ecuador.

I went to: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ and got the map for Ecuador (far Right drop down box: South America > Ecuador -seems to me, where you request a Map... The map I got & loaded on to my Garmin would not show the Streets.

(I have a GPSmap 60CSx -2GB chip) --but, no streets (unless I did something wrong).

I need a map with Streets (like Google has) & I have seen on OpenStreetMap.org.

How do I tell OpenStreetMap ALL of Ecuador? I guess I am missing something simple to do this (obviously)

Then I need to convert for Garmin use.

Recommendations? Thanks

You can download ready-made Garmin maps for many countries from the web sites listed on

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin/Download

for example this site is listed as having Ecuador maps:

http://www.ecuadortur.com/maps.php

If none of these are to your liking then you can download the raw OpenStreetMap data from here

http://download.geofabrik.de/osm/south-america/ecuador.osm.pbf

and then follow the instructions on

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin#Creating_your_own_maps_from_OSM_data

to make your own map.

I see some new links to try -maybe one of those will have an image to use -I mean, I had the Whole USA on before, so I know Ecuador should be able to be done. I just have to figure out how to Tell OpenStreetMap that I want Ecuador!

(Believe me, I would not have asked a Frequent Question, if the link above had given me the Streets in Ecuador (but, it did not)).

Thanks for the Replies -let me look at some of the Other Links.

If you download a Garmin map and it does not have street names then either there was problem in producing it - or OSM did not have the names in the first place! Looking at the current map in Quito (http://osm.org/go/NdVM0W2uw- ) I see that there are indeed many roads without a name.

With the map loaded on your GPS, zoom right out and then in to where Guayaquil is (easy to find at the head of an inlet). If you zoom in so that the zoom indicate shows around 500m or so what do you see then? Do you see a single node saying "Guayaquil" at the top of a very triangular-looking bit of coastline or something else?

If the former, then then map hasn't been loaded properly. The links above include other people with later Garmin devices such as the GPSMap 60 and details of what they did to install maps on their devices.

This is a question that crops up here fairly frequently - do a search for Garmin and information about all of the options (download a map in one of many styles, create a map yourself in either a standard style or one of your own) are explained.

It might help to explain a bit more about what you've done so far (I'm not exactly sure what "by using that Request Feature" means, for example - I can guess, but might be guessing wrong). Also when you say "but, no streets" do you mean "no streets display" or "if I search for a street it doesn't find it"?
