A square has several footways leaving in different directions. I know the footways and the border of the square should be connected with a common nodes. But should the footway stop at border or should they drawn out on the square? And if so how much? Should all the footway connected together on a common node in the middle of the square?

Any wiki page with an answer to this?

I don’t think there is world wide consensus on how to map this. In theory a pedestrian router should be able to route across a square but apparently this is not an easy thing for some reason. I am not aware of any pedestrian router that can do that.

So many people add “virtual” footways across or around the square to connect things together. When that is done, it seems that they usually put the footways along the routes that would typically be used by people traversing the square.
