While reading the fascinating book Grande Sertao of the Brasilian author J.G. Rosa, I want to make a map of the travels of its main character. But of course I do not want to change the public maps of OSM. Can I copy maps to a private part and add the data of the book to it?

The easiest way to do this is using uMap. I've done something similar for the Rivers of London book series.
