I recently downloaded and unzipped US_Pacific_OSM_Topo_v34.z7 from OSM, resulting in several file folders containing files with the following suffixes .TRE (58KB), .RGN(5.2MB), .NOD(1.2MB), .NET(478KB), .LBL(90KB) & .DEM(2.9MB). I can't open any of these files with applications on my MacBook Air, and I have no idea what they are. In following the directions on "Adding Free OpenStreetMaps to Your Garmin Oregon 450 GPS" I was told to locate the file "gmapsupp.img", but it is nowhere to be found. I'm stuck -- please assist. asked 17 Apr '22, 22:43 wthomson |
You have not given links to which service you are downloading data and reading instruction from but I assume it may be http://www.gmaptool.eu/en/content/installation or the following link. This process is often confusing initially and some of the site help pages may be clearer than others for you, but once sorted out you will find a preferred method which suits you best. There is a Garmin Maps sub forum on the OSM forum page if you get interested in making your own maps using Mkgmap at a later stage answered 19 Apr '22, 06:19 nevw |
PCs can't normally open a Garmin .img file. In my experience only Garmin Basecamp software will open a Garmin map file or a Garmin GPS device. Older Garmins need the file renamed to Gmapsupp.img. I have a an Oregon 450 it can open .img files with other names. There are several explanations of the process in this forum. You could try searching it. This Guy gives a good description on his cycling blog. https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/08/how-to-install-free-maps-on-your-garmin-edge.html Please tell us your failures and progress so we can help further. answered 19 Apr '22, 07:25 andy mackey |
