Hi all,

Adding this post as a way to share the next steps for this site transition to a more modern and updated software.

Context: Help OSM software is not maintained anymore and that's a high risk for the platform, last year it was decided that we needed to move to a more modern platform.

https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/welcome-to-the-forum-get-involved-in-the-next-steps-here/219

The site has been enabled to get everyone involved in the next steps, it would be great if you are an active user of Help OSM to join this conversation so we can co-design together the next steps:

Thanks so much!

This doesn't look like a question :-P

It's not - but it's important that it stays on the front page so that people know about it.

@SomeoneElse Add a banner on top like the forum?

(23 Mar '22, 15:57) Kovoschiz

@kovoschiz Can OSQA do that? If so, I'm sure an appropriate pull request would be welcome.

(23 Mar '22, 17:28) SomeoneElse ♦

@SomeoneElse That's why I bumped it. Although at the moment the new site isn't loading for me and this site is ...

Swapping the logo out might be enough if there's no built in way to do a banner?

(23 Mar '22, 20:19) InsertUser

For info, https://community.openstreetmap.org/ is loading for me right now, via either the UK or Germany.

(23 Mar '22, 20:21) SomeoneElse ♦

This I do not know. Maybe commandeer one of the panels on the right or something.

There's currently discussion about how best to support the up and down voting needed to replace the help site over here.

(a late reply to this) this was planned downtime for a software update I believe.

good to know. I think it was fine when I checked 1/2 an hour later.

Bumping this topic for visibility

Bump! There are a few question on the coordination topic in order to get more people aware about this effort and recognize existing support users here in the new platform.

@SomeoneElse There is a welcome message in the top right corner that could be used for the banner.

"vote up" is now working over at the "community" site: https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/could-we-have-a-emoji-thumps-up-as-reaction/708/60 , which was one of the key requirements that needed to be in place before this help site could be moved.

Still no "vote down" though :)

So long and thanks for all the fish.

Hi

There's currently discussion about how best to support the up and down voting needed to replace the help site over here Sorry I wont cooperate, since it was nt my choice and I missed the communication about it in the first place, there was not much to do about it on OSM. Just making a lot of noise does not make a choice democratic. I rather spend my time surveying just to improve OSM, reading everything thats written about OSM , on Legio For, in my chair wont improve OSM. Mapper Teek

Move to askbot. I think it migrates from the same database. It is maintained. You won't lose any content.
