Hi all, Adding this post as a way to share the next steps for this site transition to a more modern and updated software. It's not - but it's important that it stays on the front page so that people know about it.

Swapping the logo out might be enough if there's no built in way to do a banner?
For info, https://community.openstreetmap.org/ is loading for me right now, via either the UK or Germany.
This I do not know. Maybe commandeer one of the panels on the right or something.
There's currently discussion about how best to support the up and down voting needed to replace the help site over here.
(a late reply to this) this was planned downtime for a software update I believe.
