With Potlatch 2 there is no possibility to place a windmill as object anymore.

Either we need to update the wiki map feature or a symbol for windmills and power generators needs to be added in Potlatch2.

Pls, let us know the solution. Many thanks.

Greetings Markus

Potlatch allows to map features that are not contained in the presets using the advanced mode. So no there is no need to fiddle with the map features nor to add a preset to Potlatch for every possible feature in OSM.

Thanks for your (very) quick answer...

What happens actually,is, that users find their own (special) solutions :-) link Instead of a simple node they are placing a circle based on waypoints. I have some doubts that this is a good direction....What do you thnk?

Greetings

Markus

There is a symbol for power generators in the Potlatch 2 presets. Select a node then go to the menu section for "Power", and choose the icon for Plant (station). This is the symbol for a power generating station (also known as a power plant), and it will add the tag power=generator. You can also specify the energy source, eg wind, hydro, coal etc.

Same procedure as for any tag not present in Potlach 2:

  • find a place with an already existing such tag (here a windmill)

  • switch to editing with P2, click on the object, switch to the "advanced" tag, remember which tag ord is used

  • quit editing without saving (anyway you didn't change anything)

  • go to the actual place you want to add a new tag

  • click on the target object, switch back to edit, then to the "advanced" tag

  • add the right tagword, the one you just remembered above

  • save.

@ Vclaw from Alba: if I understand what you're saying, EACH of the dozens (maybe hundreds) of wind turbines on a wind farm should get a point feature attributed as a Plant (station) with power = generator, and "wind". Is that correct? Or should I simply place ONE of these for an entire wind farm and do as I have been doing, adding points for the turbines but using "Tower" and entering "wind turbine". Please see wind farm around Dexter, MN. Thanks

PS: Dexter is a very small town east of Austin, Minnesota, in Mower County. I would be happy to change all those points for the turbines to "Plant (station).....". I did notice when I went back there this afternoon on OSM and viewed the area that the symbol that appeared next to the substation looked like a wind turbine.

I HAVE CHANGED MY MIND after some thought and also finding some other wind turbine features. I will follow Vclaw's advice. I am changing all of those I created to Power - Station - Wind.

A single wind turbine is one of many "parts" of a "wind farm" ("wind farm" = "plant"). I would place a single point in the geographic centroid of the entire wind farm and attribute according to Power, Plant, etc. However, I would also place a "Tower" for each wind turbine on the "farm". That's what I've been doing, anyway.

CORRECTION: There will be a fairly central (not necessarily in the geographic center) "hub" (not sure what it's called) for the wind farm. The wind turbines are spread out over many, many square miles of farm land. This "hub" may look like (or even be an addition to) a substation. When I have placed a Tower for each wind turbine, I have added Designation = "wind turbine" since there is presently no choice other than "Tower" that fits a wind turbine.
