Roads and paths are easy to track with GPS. But it is harder to track all borders of forest and farmlands. How is this usually done in OpenStreetMap? Is there any good source of this information available online with a compatible license? There is Bing satellite imagery integrated in all of the major editors, also depending on your country there may be data under an open license which can be imported carefully. One example of compatibly-licenced data source is https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Corine_Land_Cover , which has been imported into OSM for many European countries. That import is currently a once-off operation, and the data is kept up to date with the usual OSM tools (mainly Bing and local survey).
