Have you walked the path? if you are mapping remotely it may be overgrown or cultivated and not be visible, It could be a right of way and shouldn't be removed. For example a coastal path could be sand and that could easily be hidden by winds or tides. Deleting one of those would break a route.

To change only part of a way you first have to split it. Check in this related question on how to do that.

After splitting you remove the section that is gone. But there are a few things to look out for.

  • if the path is not completely gone, instead of deleting it consider applying other keys describing its condition like surface, trail_visibility, smoothness.
  • there may be hiking or other routes going along this path. Deleting the path would break the routes. You can check at the bottom left of the side panel in the iD editor if this is the case (relations). If there are routes they should be fixed, too, if possible.

On a side note: When you are editing in an area where German is not widely understood please use the local language or English in your change set comments.

Thanks for all the hints, i deleted the path with success I think. Yes, I have tzried to walk the path but there is defnitely no path, residents told me when I came out of the dense forest they had'nt seen anybody like me for years and the path doesn't exist any more for 30 years.
