There is a road which ends and a walking path begins however the map shows it all as a road. How do I change it to show part as a walking path or do I delete the road and insert the correct road. Then mark the walking trail.

Hi jdhdonnelly just cut (using your editor)the road or way where it changes and remove traffec values and tags and add new ones to taht walking trail. If you dont edit yet in OSM please read these lines or pages https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Beginners%27_guide. I would recmmend JOSM with a steep learning curve but great results. O try them all.

Would it happen to be of similar width and accessibility, just closed to cars with legal restrictions or removable barriers? In that case it would be a =pedestrian instead, as a pedestrianized vehicular street.

In any case, split the road at the change, then change it to the appropriate one. Don't delete and re-add.
