Is it possible to download (archive, API, or whatever) the icon data set (if it is available under an Open Source license of course) which is actually used on https://www.openstreetmap.org as we can see some examples here:

That picture is actually the "standard" map style and those icons are here.

Look at https://github.com/openstreetmap/map-icons or http://osm-icons.org. Licence should be PD-style or CC0 in both cases.
