I never noticed before that there actually are routing abilities on the OSM main page.

Since when exactly are the two (GraphHopper and OSRM) different engines ('engine' is the property name in the URL) officially supported on the OSM homepage?

Are there for example some blog article or announces that I missed?

Thanks, do you know if the pedestrian and cycling routing abilities were also incorporated at the same period?

In general yes, but the engines have changed a little over the years. At first OSRM was car directions only, and originally Mapquest Open directions were also provided. You can find out more by looking at the commit history on Github.
