Using Apple Maps imagery in iPad app

Hi,

I'm developing an iPad app that allows user to draw map objects easily with touches. Apple Maps has a very good satellite view. Is it okay to use that as overlay?

I found their Terms and it seems we can't. Could someone double check it please?

I am assuming that your app would be used to add or modify data in OSM, that is things seen in the imagery might be added to the OSM database. My reading of Apple’s terms of use is that it does not allow this:

You must not . . . reproduce, modify, translate, or create derivative works of the Service or any portion thereof;

If your app is not one that modified OSM data, then perhaps you can use it. But both OSM and Apple want attribution to be shown so you may have to work out how to show both.

In general if a global imagery source isn't in https://github.com/osmlab/editor-layer-index/ then it is very very very unlikely that it is legal to use for OSM purposes.
