Hello. How to modify an already existing track on the map without duplicating the line or insulting the one who made the original line. Can we juxtapose two lines one over the other or should I try to erase the first trace before putting mine? If so, how do we do that? Thank you.

If you are sure the line of the path is incorrect you can move it. But you will need to check the image against GPXes and survey as well to be sure. I would not duplicate it, but there may be an additional but close by path. Sometimes there may be highway with a separate cycle and/ or footpath and in that case both could be mapped.

Thank you for the answer. Actually the trail line is right and in the right place, but I would like to add the trail name. The problem is that the same line runs on two trails with different names. Ideally, I should cut the line in half so that I can identify the two trails properly. How can we do that?

I mapped a new long distance path a few years ago here's the Q&A that was generated. It may be of help to you. https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/34347/i-want-to-add-a-new-long-distance-hiking-route-to-the-map
