How do you tag the individual houses that people lodge at within a chalet area? You can't tag them as tourism=chalet in addition to building=house/yes, can you? I mean, if the whole area is already tagged as tourism=chalet, tagging the houses as that seems a bit weird.

The building tag clearly needs to be tagged to a building. It should either be building=yes or reflect what the building was built do be, what it looks like. It could be something like building=house, building=cabin or building=bungalow. And you are right the tourism tag should then either be tagged on an individual building or an individual building including its grounds or to the perimeter of a group of buildings if they belong to each other in some kind, not on all of those options.

If the individual buildings have some kind of reference add a name or ref tag to them.

So if the "houses" were built specifically for lodging, but they look like big rustic cabins, shall I tag them as building=cabin? And since there's already a tourism=chalet area around them, I don't need to add a tourism tag to the individual "cabins", do I?

Yes, I would tag them as building=cabin and no, you don't put the tourism=chalet on the buildings.
