Accuracy of Bing Streetside nodes in iD

0

This question is mainly focused on the iD web editor:

What is the accuracy of the location of the Bing Streetside imagery nodes?

Are they placed based on GPS? If so, what is the accuracy of the GPS?

Use case: I want to use them to help align imagery when tracing

Hi jScher, they are definitely located by GPS but not in my experience particularly accurate. Of course this will vary by location.

They may give you a rough idea of highway geometry, but if the imagery you're trying to use already has a "native" alignment I wouldn't necessarily consider the Bing streetside photos to be more authoritative than that.

Also note that the streetside photos' locations will not necessarily be at the center of the street, especially on two-way roads.
