How come ways tagged as bridge=suspension are not rendering as bridge?

Historically, the "approved" bridge=* tags with a "structure" value rendered (cantilever, trestle) are proposed together with bridge:structure=. bridge=* is basically reserved for significantly distinct types of bridges. There are 2490 bridge:structure=suspension uses, more than 973 bridge=suspension now. The latter would be "misunderstandings".

Actually I suspect a number of the "bridge=suspension" pre-date any use of "bridge:structure=suspension", although as noted above there has been considerable modification of existing bridges to match the new scheme.
