Why not ask your question on the new OpenStreetMap Community Forum?

Hi, One of the requirements is to replace google Maps with the open street map in one of the app. In order to have my own OSM map server, what are the steps to be followed? There are so many terms like tile, layer, base map. How OSM works and how it is related to these terms.

Please help.

switch2osm is definitely the first stop. There's also a useful overview.
