shop=ice_cream - do any apps not render it?

Hi As I don't own an Android/iOS smart device, may I ask those who do, to check if the app of their choice (OSMAnd for example) renders shop=ice_cream with an icon*? Please note I'm enquiring about 'shop' not 'amenity', and only those apps/renders which show shops generally.

Two examples which may help: Node = https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/4321207426 Way = https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/226063414

  • I've always found it surprising ice_cream is classed as an 'amenity' as it isn't a social facility provided for the use of everyone. If most render 'shop' then it might be worthwhile considering swapping over.

Apps I have installed show the second link location:

  • OsmAnd: ice cream cone,
  • Maps.me: a generic shop,
  • Magic Earth: generic shop.
  • Vespucci shows nothing special

As to the naming convention. I can see this one going either way. Ice cream parlors and kiosks tend to take a bulk item and dispense it for the individuals in a similar way to amenity=fuel (but tastier).

There's some grey area, but as I understand it the naming convention is: shop=ice_cream is a place that primarily sells ice cream as a grocery item (ie packed in tubs) and amenity=ice_cream is a place that serves ice cream to be enjoyed immediately. Similar to the distinction between shop=alcohol vs amenity=bar.
