There are symbols on the map that don't have an immediately obvious meaning, not to me anyway. Is there a table of map symbols and their meanings? If so it would be helpful to have a link to it on the normal map display. |

A map key for the "standard" style on openstreetmap.org can be accessed through the "i" (information) icon on the right-hand side of that website. It is dynamically updated when you zoom in, but unfortunately it is incomplete, especially with regards to icons. The Browsing documentation page has some brief information on this website feature. Some people have also attempted to create a map key on the wiki at Standard tile layer/Key. At the time of writing, it doesn't seem to be quite up to date with the latest style changes, but it's still helpful. Have a look at the "symbols" section! Alternatively, there may be a solution that doesn't involve a map key at all: Using the query tool (the "?" icon on the right-hand side of openstreetmap.org), you can get a list of the objects near the location you click at, allowing you to inspect the object with the unfamiliar icon. |
