I want to measure the lengths of highways in an area by particular type.

I'm sure there must be a way and/or the tools to do this, but I am not sure where to start. If someone can at least point me in the right direction, then that would be much appreciated.

I am looking to calculate, by ratio to normal roads, the amount of segregated cycleways in various cities around the world. I.e. length of cycleways (highway=cycleway, segregated=yes) divided by the length of any sort of highway, in a particular city.
