Double arcs in street network

0

Hi! I am creating a street network to be able to plan snow removal. To do that, I would like to plot two arc for a road. One in every direction. Meaning that every lane get a own arc. Is that possible? Sincerely, Gustav

Hi Gustav,

assuming you want to create your street network in OpenStreetMap.

As a general rule we map a way (arc) for each separate carriageway. So if you have a dual carriageway (i.e. a physical barrier between the lanes) we draw two ways. In cases where there is no physical barrier between the directions we only draw one way. Even if there is a solid line or whatever disallowing crossing from one direction lane onto another direction lane we only draw one way.

We additionally use the lane tagging scheme (lanes, turn) to detail the number, direction and purpose of the lanes.

So to answer your question, please do not map two (or more) ways if the lanes are not physically separated.
