If you select Active Posts, the forum lists 9 recent posts then lists posts from 2012 and older. If you select Recent Posts it lists 6 recent posts, then posts from 2012 and older. What's up with that? Where are all the forum posts from the last 6 years?

Are you talking about https://forum.openstreetmap.org ? If so, you might want to ask there.

I am asking about this forum I am posting in. https://help.openstreetmap.org/ The situation I described is what I see here. No posts on page 1 from 2013 to 2018. It goes from 2 days ago then skips to 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 etc.

I can't reproduce this. Can you give the URL of specific pages? If I sort by active posts: https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/?sort=active ... or by newest posts.. https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/?sort=newest ... I see what I would expect, a bunch of posts from March, then February, and if I go back far enough posts from 2018 etc.

But maybe you are navigating to some other page?

Thanks maxerickson, When it says 12 March my brain was seeing it as 2012 March, my preferred date format. Now where is the Egg on My Face emoji?
