exporting a small area of a map for GARMIN eTrex touch 25

Hi. I have a GARMIN eTrex Touch 25 and am new to this kind of stuff. I have trouble exportig just a certian area of a map, for example: I would like to export Yucatan from the map of Mexcio, as the whole Mexico map is too large to export. For now I only managed to export .png or .jpg files of the map. Which format does the export need to be? Can someone please expain me the whole process of how to do this and how I get it on my Garmin device? Thank you for your help!
