When I try to edit, I keep getting "Error: Couldn't load the map". What am I doing wrong here? asked 02 Aug '11, 17:41 Jayron32 |
Have a look in the OSM wiki at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Platform_Status Sometimes there are some problems with the servers that deliver the map data to your application that demands for the data. So try again some hours later. And we can give you much better help if you tell us first, from what program or web service are you requesting map data? (because there are many different) And what Operating system with what kind browser are you using if you request OSM data via a web service. If you want, edit your question and give us more input ;-) answered 02 Aug '11, 20:40 stephan75 Here's what I got: I am using the default map editor (Potlatch 2) that you get when you push the "edit" button on OpenStreetMap.org. I am running IE9 on a Windows 7 operating system. It is a heavy but intermittent problem; every once in a while it loads the map and I get about 5 minutes of editing in, and then it craps itself and I get nothing but a little blue box that says "Error" on the top and "Couldn't load the map" in the middle. It does nothing after that. If I revert to "view" mode, it loads the map fine. Its just when I try to edit the map that I get the problem. Any tips?

I had a similar problem when I started using potlach2 have you zoomed into map as far as possible? This will reduce the amount of data that you are trying to download. The system fails if the download takes too long, so stay zoomed in as much as possible as you scroll around the map answered 02 Aug '11, 23:57 andy mackey Thanks. I'll try to work on smaller maps. I've noticed it doesn't happen ''as often'' when I am working smaller, but it still happens.
