Is there a JOSM equivalent of Potlatch's geojson 'task' feature?

I'm not familiar with the feature in Potlatch, but the Todo plugin for JOSM might do what you want.

This looks even better than Potlatch's Task as it can accept polygon geometry & not just centre points. Using a combination of Overpass & JOSM's filter I can create the required data for the ToDo plugin.

Except for one thing, my ToDos are over an area to large for JOSM to download. I have to 'Download in current view' each time which leads me to a follow on Q:
