Why not ask your question on the new OpenStreetMap Community Forum?

When updating objects that were imported from NHD, such as streams and ponds, what should I do with the existing tags?

Do the attribution=NHD & source=NHD_import_..." tags need to be removed since I have now changed it based on real-life & Bing sources?

And then what to do with NHD:ComID, NHD:FCode, NHD:Ftype, NHD:RESOLUTION, NHD:ReachCode, NHD:way_id, etc...

I assume all of this should just go away, but I wanted to check first.

Yes, this can all disappear. If this were a modern import, those tags would not have been brought in.
