Area used for training soldiers

0

How to tag an area which is

  • Used to train solders
  • Large-ish, several square kilometres, mostly forest and countryside (including cattle!)
  • Not, strictly speaking, off-limits to the general public, but
  • may be noisy and risky ("blank" ammunition firing, combat vehicles doing "tactical" driving, ...)

landuse=military, military=training_area looked promising, but, judging by the wiki, training_area is more of a research/test facility and not so much about squaddies doing the same ambush over and over again... And if call this a danger_area, what, then, do I use for the areas where there actually are live shells dropping out of the sky, and where you get prosecuted if you enter?

I would suggest using the tagging you proposed (landuse=military, military=training_area). Access can be indicated with appropriate access tags :-).

There is a significant difference in the wiki contents between the English and German variants and the German variant would clearly match what you are looking for (we have an unmapped one nearby that we should really add, which as in your case, is not completely closed off).
