When I press Shift+H on a way, I'm getting the link to history:

https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/$way/history

How can I change JOSM to give me a snippet directly usable in OSM messages, e.g. [$name](https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/$way) ?

not really, this will just open a browser at https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/$way , but does not provide the markup which was asked for.
