I quite often come across ways (e.g. 143767631) that are tagged highway=cycleway, cycleway=track. Does the cycleway=track bit mean anything on a stand-alone cycleway like this, or is it a tagging mistake?

It’s an artefact of Potlatch 1 presets. It doesn’t mean anything.

Thanks! I was suspecting something like that -- there's over 800 km of them in Sweden, which seemed a bit much for a manual mistake!

Hi turepalsson, in The Netherlands we have ways in the middle of nowhere of maybe 5m wide where you can only walk of cycle often with a toplayer of smoothe red asphalt. These are tagged here as highway=cycleway. Then there are ways along motorways dedicated for bicycles which are separated physically from them. These are tagged as tracks. Here is what the Wiki says : https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Map_Features : cycleway=track : A track provides a route that is separated from traffic. In the United States, this term is often used to refer to bike lanes that are separated from lanes for cars by pavement buffers, bollards, parking lanes, and curbs. Note that a cycle track may alternatively be drawn as a separate way next to the road which is tagged as highway=cycleway. Here is a more elaborate scheme : https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Bicycle -- hth Gys

But then you have cycleway=track on the way that represents the big road, right? I.e, you might have a way tagged highway=trunk, cycleway=track, meaning "this is a trunk road with a cycle track running along it". In the cases I'm wondering about, there is a single way tagged highway=cycleway, cycleway=track which would then mean "this is a cycleway with a cycle track running along it", which does not make any sense (and does not match reality).

Hi turepalsson, I agree. I added the https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Bicycle link because it's the most elaborate explanation of tagging cycling related situations I have found. Tagging a sigle way dedicated to cycling with BOTH highway=cycleway AND cycleway=track does not make sense to me either. Greetz Gys
