Is there a way to disable or not show the background colors in either the STANDARD or CYCLE map view? Mainly for printing purposes. |

Web tiles will give bad results when you try to print them. Better take a look at OSM on Paper. You can for example use MyOSMatic (a MapOSMatic fork) to generate a printable map. |

Would vector maps crated from OSM do for you? www.openandromaps.org produces vector maps every month - they are meant for a number of Android apps, but who knows what else you can do with them. In these Android apps, at least, there are lots of themes (which can be edited) that give a large number of totally different looks to the maps. |

You'll need to render your own tiles. With the standard map you can just change the sea xolour, but the cycle map style isn't public, I don't think.
