I noticed in the Crossing Wiki Examples Table that the Zebra and Pelican rows are different in that Pelican has the bicycle=no tag whereas Zebra does not. Is it necessary to add the bicycle tag, then?

bicycle=yes if there are signs or road markings indicating that bicycle traffic should use this crossing, or if you know for a fact that a bicycle lane or bike path crosses here. bicycle=no if there are signs or road markings indicating that bicycle traffic should not use this crossing. Otherwise no need to do any bicycle-specific tagging.

Despite not including bicycle=no in the "translation" for zebra crossings, the wiki does say that crossing=zebra is for pedestrians only, so I never tag zebra unless there's a reason to believe that bike crossing is prohibited. The major difference between zebra crossings and pelican crossing, by the way, is that pelican crossings have signal lights to indicate when pedestrians may cross (we call them "walk/don't walk" signs in the USA) and zebra crossings do not.

"or if you know for a fact that a bicycle lane or bike path crosses here" - it should be still bicycle=no if there is bike path but using bicycle on crossing is illegal (a popular trap in a Poland)

In these cases, bicycle riders are required to dismount and walk across the crossing? That makes sense, but I would hope that there would be a sign on the bicyclists' approach that indicates this. Otherwise it really does sound like a trap!
