Hello all,

I recently came across the service mapiful.com where you can style your own map and have them print it. I ordered a map and really liked it. I think they use OSM data to create the map. Do they not need to give attribution on the printout of the map?

What If I created some maps myself by downloading data from http://download.geofabrik.de/ and applying my own style to it? Do I need to give attribution here? Can I just print it on anything and sell it because I created the style? Would it be enough to give attribution on my projects website?

Hope you can help me :)

cheers

Edit: cartida.com is a similar site to mapiful.com. On their website on the bottom they give the attribution "Map data: OpenStreetMap contributors". Is this enough?

They do announce that they use OSM data - but it is rather hidden in an FAQ: [https://mapiful.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001983691-What-source-do-you-use-for-your-map-data-]

But is this enough attribution? If you hide it somewhere. Do you not have to give attribution on the actual map printout as well?

Yes, you do.

https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Licence/Licence_and_Legal_FAQ#Where_to_put_it.3F says "for a browsable electronic map (e.g. embedded in a web page or mobile phone application), the credit should typically appear in the corner of the map". IANAL but to me "should" sounds like a preference and not a requirement. Nevertheless, have you tried to contact mapiful to ask them about proper attribution (in a polite way)?
