As I work on some areas near the sea or/and lakes I would like to add an icon that shows where people can get access to the water. Is there any icon or is one planned? I would find it helpful to know where swimming is allowed or prohibited.

There is a tag for beaches, natural=beach. You can add supervised=yes if there are lifeguards, and you can add swimming=no, but those tags won't be visible in Mapnik. Only beach will be visible, as a yellow dotted surface. I don't know if other icons are planned.

I'd consider mapping the physical object used to provide access to the water, such as a highway=footway or highway=steps to the water edge, or if there is a ladder to get down to the water level use ladder=yes on the node.

If there is something on the ground indicating a particular place to enter the water then even entrance=yes on the node of the waters edge.
