I have read several Q&A tagged "not_shown" and now I know that some objects are not shown in OSM but other OSM-based maps could show them. Is there a complete list of types of object shown/not shown in OSM? I've just modified the type of an object in my zone: it's a small Etruscan tomb and was tagged as "archaeological site" but a more specific "historic=tomb" tag exists. I think my change is correct but, sincerely, I'm unhappy of the result: now the object is not shown (actually is not shown only at high zoom level, I guess that zoom levels are not updated with the same frequency, right?). I'm unhappy because I would have never "discovered" that tomb without that symbol shown by OSM and I suspect that it was wrongly tagged just to let the map show it! I think that the decision of showing/not showing a symbol should be mainly related to the zoom level and to the physical space available on the map for the symbol and its label; if the decision is related to the symbol type only, some people could decide to use an inappropriate tag to get the symbol on the map. How can I propose this feature to OSM programmers? I see other wrong "archaeological sites" in my zone but I will not correct them. asked 29 Apr '18, 11:36 Pino |
See https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/issues for proposing improvements, and in particular https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/blob/master/CARTOGRAPHY.md for the guidelines of what gets included, and https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md for how to contribute. Please remember that everyone working on the style is a volunteer and be accordingly gracious in your request! answered 29 Apr '18, 13:43 Richard ♦ |
