I'm kind of confused with the countless tutorials, I'm not sure I'm reading the right one(s).

I'm looking for main directives on how to create a static map with specific items that I choose individually (some roads, some parks, some water currents). The final result will be printed on some A3 papers

Once I get started I might be able to progress on my own or ask more specific questions, but right now I'd like to make sure I begin from scratch with the right tools

I would probably start with QGIS then (there are links to specific tutorials on this page):
