Hi Occasional JOSM user.

I want to drag a corner of a polygon and snap it to the midpoints of either lines or rectangular polygons. I can snap to end/corner points using the Crtl button, but I am unable with midpoints.

I'm aware I can drag a midpoint to create new lines & an end point but that can alter the orthogonality of the polygons.

Is there a direct way to snap to midpoints?

What exactly do you mean by "midpoint"?

Unsure how to reply to that.

Can you link to such a polygon or create a screenshot to illustrate exactly what you want to do?

I assume that by "midpoint" you mean the point on the half distance between two neighbouring nodes of a way which is symbolised by a "+" in JOSM.

I know no direct way to do that. I often zoom in very much to the "+" and then insert a new node into the way at approximately that position. Afterwards I can use it as a snap target or tag it (e.g. a building entrance).
